In the 1940s, Catholics in west Miami attended Gesu, one of the city’s five parishes. The need for another parish prompted the formation of Saint Michael the Archangel in 1946, the first Mass celebrated in September of that year at the at the Miami Senior High School’s Auditorium. Worshipers established religious education classes held in private homes and volunteered as altar servers.

Founded in 1960, The Church of the Nativity of Our Blessed Lord continues to serve the Catholics in Hollywood. Father Hugh J. Flynn, the first pastor, celebrated the first Mass in a tent large enough for 1,200 parishioners. Outreach ministries formed quickly, first the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the Nativity Guild, followed by the Holy Name Society. Parishioners also began religious education classes.

Parishioners of All Saints parish, formed in 1982, celebrated its first Mass in what is now the home of the City of Sunrise Recreation Department. Led by Father Anthony Mulderry and Sister Millicent Zimmer, who joined the church in 1982 as the pastoral minister, the parish thrived.

Actualmente podemos resaltar la devoción acendrada al Santo Cristo. En la parroquia hay tres comunidades religiosas: los Padres Franciscanos, las Religiosas Capuchinas, y las Religiosas de la Presentación.

Saint John the Apostle Parish was established by Archbishop Joseph Hurley of St. Augustine in 1945 with Father Lawrence J. Flynn as its founding pastor. On January 22, 1950 the Most Reverend Thomas J. McDonough, Auxiliary Bishop of St. Augustine, celebrated a Pontifi cal Mass for the blessing and dedication of the school with a chapel-Auditorium, rectory and convent. Father Peter Reilly, a young Irish priest, was appointed second pastor of St. John’s in 1952.
